Indian cultural festival to provide Bollywood in our backyard

Bundaberg will be one of only two regional communities to participate in a new Indian cultural festival this coming long weekend thanks to a collaboration between Bundaberg Regional Council and CQUniversity.
The Confluence Festival will include a seven-piece Rajasthani musical ensemble called “The Kutle Khan Project” playing at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre on Saturday.
This will be followed by a mini-Indian Festival in Buss Park with an authentic Bollywood choreographer presenting a free dance workshop, food and entertainment followed by a double feature film presentation of a new Bollywood box office smash ‘Mary Kom’ and the Indian/Australian film ‘Lion’.
“I struck up a conversation with the Honorary Consul of India in Queensland at an event in Brisbane and found out about this great collaboration between the Australian and Indian Governments,” said Mayor Jack Dempsey. “This is a perfect opportunity for us to build closer ties with India through a cultural opportunity like this.
“We have a significant Indian community in the Bundaberg Region and it is our role as a Council to seek to engage with all cultures as part of our programming at venues like the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre.”
“We can’t wait for this weekend and, while I can’t guarantee I’ll be participating in the Bollywood Dance Workshop, I’ll be there to see it all unfold.”

- The Kutle Khan Project – The Moncrieff Entertainment Centre at 7.30pm.
Sunday, 1 October
- Mini-Indian Festival in Buss Park – free admission to park from 3-7.30pm (food stalls and entertainment)
- Bollywood Dance Workshop and – free to participate – from 3.30-4.30pm
- Double Film Feature – Lion (PG) and Mary Kom (M) – The Moncrieff Entertainment Centre from 6.30pm
