Shack leading new program to help Bundy youth
Willie Shackleford – or Shack as he is known – is helping Bundaberg’s youth get off the street. A new program aimed at helping teenagers between the age of 15 and 19 starts next week.
Shack will be involved in the program providng a hands-on impact to change the lives of our Bundy youths.
“I’ve been at that stage where I’ve felt like dropping out of school and moving on to other things that didn’t benefit me in the long run,” he said.
“This program is about getting them from the wrong path and on to the right path.”
“All we can do is let them learn, show them compassion and show them teaching.”
While the focus is on landing a job, Shack said the aim was to have fun as well.
“Everything we do, every program we try to do, we try to have some fun,” he said.
“We’re trying to get them to realise that life is fun.”
The Bundy Bulls basketball captain will host an open day at 45a Walla St from 10am to noon for those interested. The program commences next Monday so people are urged to get in quick if they know someone who would benefit.
During the 16-week program participants will complete challenges in the community to work towards a goal of study or work. More information can be found by calling Sue Tasker on 0411592594.
