What cool things do we need in Bundaberg?
What cool things do we need in Bundaberg?
This month we asked our community;
"If you had the power to totally change Bundaberg, what awesome stuff would you suggest to make it a more happening and fulfilling place for you, your family and friends?"
This is what they told us;
"
Inclusivity for all, that includes a community accessible to all and with that comes an all-abilities park, that is on top of the list. Cirsty asked her team at Access Recreation and they said;
Top Golf, Water Park, Betty Burgers, Chipmunks, Go Kart track open to public, Eat Street style Markets on a Friday night, Disneyland, Interactive Museum

"
Rachel Mulvahil has lived in the area all of her life and has watched it grow and change. Now that she is a parent herself she would love to see a waterpark in the area. "In the warmer months we like to travel to Hervey Bay to visit their wonderful Wetside Water Park. It would be great if Bundaberg had something like this on offer". Rachel said, “I think that Bundaberg is what you make of it. We love exploring the outer suburbs and towns, and showing off our great attractions to visitors.

Rachels not alone, lots of people agreed a Water Park would be great
Jane said: Water park with slides/fun park, Roller skating rink,
Anonymous said; Bundy’s got talent, trampoline park, skate boarding comp (build a half pipe). Outdoor climbing/obstacle course- teen challenge course. More fun cheap mini golf, water Park, teen Cafe, free local band gigs, better advertised events. Rock climbing, beach competitions, free or cheap lifestyle classes. More arcades.
Kirsty said; Add more things to do like Timezone or big arcade games store, big updated skate ramp, top golf, water park. Bring some of the Gold Coast attractions to Bundaberg.
Anonymous said; More teen get-together groups and leisure centres, like Bundy Bowl and Leisure. A trampoline centre, rock climbing, Gravity World, a Waterpark, Tree top zip-lines.
Skating, Dancing and Bike Riding are also popular ideas
Caitlyn said; A skating rink! Somewhere to dance to music/lights, maybe a disco for teens.
Elizabeth said; Well we live over at North Bundaberg, it would be awesome to see a skate park, basketball court.
Max said; A mountain bike park at Avoca next to Mott street would be great as there are many teens that love mountain biking. Another great place is the Unused grass area at Neilsons beach. Because Neilson is already having a lot of development, excess dirt used to make those facilities can instead be used to make a pump track. That way it will bring more people to Bargara as there is a campground next to it, a surf club and a playground. A pump track at Neilsons will also give riders an option as there is a skate park nearby. Another great reason to have a pump track at Nielsen’s is because the closest pump track is Avoca. On the holidays when our parents are working they can’t get us there. In conclusion, having a pump track at Neilsons will mean that teens in Bargara don’t have to ride on the dangerous roads to get to the pump track in Avoca. It means that riders in Bargara have an option and some where to ride and the big grass area west of the soccer/rope playground/gym equipment can be put to use.
Anonymous said; More Bike jumps or more bike park
Anonymous said; We need a skate park and jump track at Mary Kinross park. Many teens are bored and it’s a 6km ride to the other side of Bargara making it difficult for us.a Basketball hoop would be good too!
Other creative and innovative ideas suggested
Breanna said; Hands on workshops teaching practical skills needed for adulthood eg. changing a tire, filing a tax return, anything to do with Centrelink, applying for a job, interview prep etc. (these are skills that often will be taught by parents and sometimes by school, but not everyone has access to this type of practical education)
Jack said; Maybe something like a pool hall with cool music but no alcohol. For just people under 19
Sam said; A community centre for all age groups. Providing opportunities for multi generational contact to reduce e social isolation. Give teens the opportunity to volunteer and participate in group activities during school holidays to reduce anti social behaviour, provide skills and experience to build a resume and assist local business looking for employees
Mel said; More youth friendly places like timezone, mini golf and places to hang out with my friends... where everyone is welcome. Definitely low cost or free activities.
Anonymous said; I think that if I was to change Bundy, I would ask for a movie night maybe every 2nd Friday for the whole year minus public holidays that were just for teens and free. It could be an option to buy snacks. I also think that having more things aimed for the interests of teens, so that they could get away from technology for a bit, like a fashion fair where people could try on all sorts of clothes and maybe show off their own. Or a video game comp at schools, which I’ve seen and seems to have a big impact.
Lisa said; Somewhere that had an opportunity to pull things apart and build new things, with some older people that could help. Old pallets, and motors, building forts, furniture and reworking motors to run fun things like foam blasters or launching slime.
Emma said; A safe space to share artistic ideas with other kids the same age. No judgement and more encouragement.
Anonymous said; More art and craft workshops
Anonymous said; Safe spaces for older kids to hang out. More affordable activities for the weekend (currently only bowling or swimming pool).
