Paper Plate Fox and Sheep

Paper Plate Fox and Sheep
Our Playgroup has been so super excited about the news that Mem Fox, Author of the book Hattie and Fox will visit Bundaberg next year. We cannot wait to see her at the children’s session themed around this book. In celebration of this fabulous picture book, we have been creating lots of farmyard activities. We made a Hattie and the Fox Hen House, washed toy tractors, and created farm scenes with playdough. We also made paper plate fox and sheep faces with tissue paper, and cotton balls.
Here’s how you can do this activity with your children:
Fox
What you need:
- paper plate
- orange tissue paper
- black tissue paper
- scissors
- glue
- stapler
- black marker
What you do:
- Fold your plate in half without making a crease and cut like the picture to the right.
- Staple the scrapes to the rounded edge of the paper plate to resemble fox ears (see finished example fox)
- Using scissors cut the orange tissue paper into smaller pieces ready for collage
- Cover the paper plate with glue and then the orange tissue paper
- Scrunch up some black tissue paper into a ball to create a nose
- Attach the black tissue paper ball to the pointed part of the fox face to resemble a nose
- Wait for the glue to dry
- Using a black marker draw 2 eyes onto your fox face
Sheep
What you need:
- paper plate
- cotton balls
- black cardboard
- glue
- stapler
- scissors
What you do:
- Take some black cardboard and cut out a head and 2 feet to resemble the picture to the right
- Cover the paper plate with glue
- Collage the paper plate using cotton balls to make a sheep’s body
- Staple the head and the feet to the body to resemble the example picture above
And there you have 2 of the characters out of the book “Hattie and the Fox”. You could very easily make other farmyard animals using paper plates and other collage materials. Perhaps you would like to turn the fox face into a mask by cutting out holes for eyes. How about playing hide and seek with the fox, or What’s the time Mr Fox?
Can you recommend any fun fox or chicken games to play with children under 5, to go along with our Hattie and the Fox themes?
