Bundaberg Nature Parks Our Guide
Bundaberg Nature Parks
Our Guide
We reviewed 8 of the BEST Bundaberg Nature Parks in our region. These have all been tried and tested by our own Wide Bay Kids!
We love spending time outdoors and the cooler months between May and September are perfect for taking a bush walk through Bundaberg's Nature Parks. Here are our favourite places to take our Wide Bay Kids;
1. Russo Nature Park
2. Riverview Environmental Reserve
3. Hummock Lookout and Reserve
4. Meadowvale Nature Park
5. Sharon Gorge Nature Park
6. Baldwin Swamp
7. Mt Walsh Utopia Rock Pools
8. Woodgate Banksia Walking Track
All of these walks are good for little & big kids - some have more challenging routes while others have lots of cool and adventurous things to see along the trail. Some are suitable to take bikes and others have creeks to swim in. When heading out to the bush make sure you tell someone where you are going. Take plenty of water, comfy shoes a hat and sunscreen.
Russo Nature Park
Stockyard Creek greets you at the entrance of Russo Nature Park and follows you as you explore your way through the park. We love taking our shoes and socks off and paddling in the pristine water whenever we visit.
Riverview Enviornmental Reserve
Riverview Environmental Reserve is just 15 minutes from the city centre located at the picture perfect Riverview on the Elliott River. This a great spot to introduce kids to bush walking or fishing with 3 short easy walks to choose from
Hummock Lookout & Reserve
The Hummock Lookout and Reserve offers the best 360 degree view in town. We thoroughly recommend sunrise, sunset, or a night viewing for something different. The reserve hosts one of the last remnants of a dry rainforest plant community, known as Woongarra Scrub. To explore the reserve take a walk along the boardwalk which climbs up to a lookout located on top of a water reservoir.
Meadowvale Nature Park
Meadowvale Nature Park is only 10 minutes from the Bundaberg City Centre out along Rosedale Road. This natural bushland is a great place to take kids for a short bush walk. All tracks lead to Splitters Creek and the chance to glimpse a platypus
Sharon Gorge Nature Park
Sharon Gorge Nature Park is just 10 minutes from town. This park hosts a short 2km return walk which starts at the gorge entrance. Initially tropical the park soon changes into scrubby bush land before ending at a landing pad overlooking the Burnett River
Baldwin Swamp Environmental Park
Baldwin Swamp is an awesome place for kids of all ages to explore. The park consists of a network of bush and concrete walking tracks, boardwalks and bridges in a lush picturesque setting. You will find lots of water birds and other wildlife as you weave your way through the freshwater wetlands and rain forest
Utopia Rock Pools Mt Walsh
Mt Walsh Utopia Rock Pools are simply devine. Located in the Mt Walsh National Park just outside of Biggenden this is a good 1 1/2 hour drive from Bundaberg, but is well worth it. You will know you’ve arrived when you hear the sounds of running water. Climb up and over the rocks to see Waterfall Creek and the rock pools.
Banksia Walking Track Woodgate
Burrum Coast National Park
The Banksia walking track at Woodgate is a great nature walk to explore with kids. It’s set within the Woodgate section of the Burrum Coast National Park and includes both a boardwalk wetland area and a bush walking track.
