Things to do when its HOT

In anticipation of the roasting we’re expecting in the Summer months we’ve put together this list of tips to beat the heat.

Things to do when its HOT

• Grab some water pistols or super soakers and play a game of tiggy. Turn the sprinkler on and go for it. If little ones have trouble with water pistols, spray bottles work just as well.

• Sing into the fan. Who doesn’t love singing into the fan!
• Make coloured ice shapes or frozen dinosour eggs. Fill different sized plastic containers with coloured water and freeze overnight. Place the coloured blocks in a wading pool or in a water table. To make dinosaur eggs  place plastic dinosours in your contained before you freeze them.  Kids love watching the water melt, fill a pool or water table and watch the coloured shapes bob along.

• Go to the pool. Make sure you pack plenty of sunscreen and a hat. Bring some food and have a picnic in the shade! Wetside and BSA Water Parks are open and Norville Pool in Bundaberg, Maryborough Aquatic Centre and Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre all have regular inflatable days. All pools cater for big and little kids. There is also a great lagoon for young kids at Gin Gin Pool and if you’re in the Childers area the Childers Pool will also be open.

• Head to Bundy Bowl for some awesome airconditioned entertainment that the whole family can enjoy. Sit back, relax and watch or join in. Bundy Bowl Laser skirmish and the dodgems are our favourites.
• Set up a truck wash!  Grab some sponges and soapy water and go for it!

• Go to a local museum or library. All Fraser Coast Libraries and all Bundaberg Libraries (except for Woodgate) are open every day except for Sundays. The Hinkler Hall of Aviation in Bundaberg is a great museum to visit with kids with awesome interactive exhibits.  You could also try the Fraser Coast Discovery Sphere in Herevy Bay or the Whodunit exhibit in the Town Hall in Maryborough.

• Make your own slip and slide. Grab a tarp, a few tent pegs or fill some buckets with water to hold the tarp down, some washing up detergent and the hose and go for it. Add some plastic cups, utensils and buckets to turn it into a creative play session.

• Get in the kitchen and make some cool treats. Make iceblocks, a nice cool smoothie, thick shake or some jelly.

• Bring out the board games. Sit down indoors under a fan and have some fun playing some of your old favourites with the kids.
• Try Spray Painting.  Fill some spray bottles with coloured water and spray onto an old bed sheet.  Let it dry and enjoy your masterpiece.

• Go to the movies. Treat yourself and the kids to a movie at the theatre. Invite friends so everyone enjoy some time together.
• Head to the beach.  Make sure to slip, slop, slap and wrap and to stay well hydrated. Grab the boogie boards or a ball and have some beach water fun. We have so many local beaches to choose from we really are spoilt.

• Set up a water activity table.  Place some small toys in the water and play a game of hide and seek. Add some mud for some extra fun!

• Get out the sprinkler and make up your own game. Bring out some plastic toys, tubs or water tables and see what you can create
• Bath dolls! Indoors or out it’s fun either way!

• Head to a shady park! In Bundy head to Alexandra, Queens and Lake Ellen Parks or in Maryborough head to Queens or Anzac Parks for some great shady fun. Take a picnic and enjoy being in the shady outdoors.

• Visit your local shopping centre. Enjoy the air-conditioning, shopping or holiday events in Bundy at Hinkler Central or Sugarland Plaza. In Hervey Bay check out Pialba Place or Station Square in Maryborough
• Play in some mud! Get out the buckets, spades, kitchen equipment and your trucks. Make a constructions site, some mud pies or a mud castle.

• Water balloon fight. Get some friends together and cool down by throwing water balloons at each other.

• Pick up a new hobby or sport. Whether you’re learning to cook or scrapbook in the aircon or playing volleyball under the sun, there is always something new to keep you and your family occupied in the heat.
